SPREAD THE RIPPLE PROMPT FOR FEBRUARY
DIY Gifts- Home-Made Presents With A Personal Touch
Because love is everything that matters.
“The greatest gift you can give someone is your time, because when you give your time, you are giving a portion of your life that you will never get back.” — Anonymous
I learnt the art of gifting from my mother. She has always been a very creative person. She loved knitting, embroidery, and fabric painting and is also a culinary expert.
My mother always created a gift at home instead of buying something from the market. She would knit sweaters, scarves, shawls, and stoles and gift them, or embroider dress material or a saree for family and friends.
Every newborn baby in our family and friend circle would always receive a hand-knitted woollen dress and shawl from my mom.
During my son’s naming and cradle ceremony, she knitted 12 different varieties of baby sweaters in 12 different colours and gifted them to him. She also created soft toys with wool.
Significance of handmade gifts
Giving a handmade gift tells your recipient that they are special. It is not the thought that counts but the time invested in creating it.
The receiver is always stunned to know that you’ve exerted effort and time to make them feel special.
A story about gifting from the heart
I remembered reading this story about a man named Mark. He always struggled to express his emotions and to find perfect gifts for his loved ones.
One of Mark’s closest friends, Sarah, was having a difficult time. She had lost her job and was struggling to make ends meet. Mark wanted to do something special for her but needed more money to spend on a gift. He remembered the old saying, “It’s the thought that counts”, and decided to put that into practice.
He spent several hours in a garden, picking fresh flowers and arranging them in a bouquet. He wrapped the bouquet in a simple piece of paper and added a special note that expressed his love and support for Sarah.
When Sarah received the bouquet and the note, she was overwhelmed with emotion. She had never received a gift so simple and yet so meaningful. She was deeply touched.
From that day on, Mark never struggled to find the perfect gift again. He learned that gifting from the heart was about expressing his love and emotions, and a simple gesture could mean more to someone than any expensive present.
